What is Hyperhidrosis?
Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Renee Snyder, and her team of skilled physicians treat excessive sweating in adults. Also known as hyperhidrosis, this is a condition that causes an exuberant amount of sweating, most commonly in the area under the armpit, but it can also affect the hands, feet, and a variety of other body areas. Excessive sweating may be episodic or continuous, and it may also be caused by warm weather, emotional stress, or for no reason at all. In some individuals, the condition may be due to an underlying medical condition such as obesity, menopause, thyroid, or a psychiatric disorder. However, the vast majority of patients have what is known as essential hyperhidrosis, for which the cause is unknown. Excessive sweating can be extremely embarrassing and can significantly undermine your confidence in day-to-day interactions with others. It is our goal to help you control and treat the unwanted symptoms of hyperhidrosis and eliminate worry in the workplace and in your everyday life.
"I have been seeing Dr. Snyder for 8 years now. She is hands down the best dermatologist I have ever seen. I appreciate her direct no nonsense manner and her overall approach to aging. She is always one to err on the side of "less is more" and has countless times advised me against something I was inquiring about because she felt it was simply too soon. I truly trust her opinion and approach. Anytime I have come in with a dermatological issue her recommended remedy has always worked on the first try. I would never dream of seeing anyone else. Dr. Snyder is my end all be all"- M.F. / Yelp / Mar 25, 2021

In order to determine if a patient suffers from hyperhidrosis, a physician must perform a physical exam to get a more in-depth look at the areas in which there is excessive sweating. There will also be a series of questions that will help the doctor understand your condition. If it is determined that there is an underlying medical condition that is causing the excessive sweating, then additional diagnoses and treatments need to be completed.
How to Treat Hyperhidrosis
There are multiple options for treatment of hyperhidrosis, including prescription-strength antiperspirants, oral medicaions and/or the use of BOTOX®.
While antiperspirants and BOTOX may reduce the sweating in the areas that they are applied to, both of these treatments are considered a temporary fix. The antiperspirants must be applied every day, while BOTOX must be injected into the affected areas every 4 – 6 months.
Oral medical medications such as glycopyrrolate can be taken orally or made into a topical preparation to successfully control symptoms.
